Disruption as HMRC shuts down IT system at busiest time

HMRC has been criticised for bad planning and lack of foresight after it shut down its entire IT system for nearly a week.

The IT network – including systems which businesses use for paying tax – was affected from close of play on Thursday, April 5, until April 11 in some cases.

Orange & Gold and its clients have not been able to file tax returns such as P35 until the services were upgraded. HMRC has said if, for any unforeseen reason this is prevented because of the changes, it would count as a sufficient excuse for late payment.
