Whilst it would appear that the economic recovery is genuinely starting to take hold, it's hard to know if the raft of positive statistics published on a weekly and even daily basis at the moment, in relation to retail spending, consumer and business confidence and employment, are actually being felt by the public at large. However, it's difficult to deny that things do seem to be improving.
A particularly relevant statistic for contractors published this week was by KPMG and REC, stating that July saw the fastest increase in temporary appointments since 1998! It also showed growth in vacancies hitting a 6-year high and pay rates for temporary staff rising for the seventh consecutive month.
So, a cautious but pretty darn positive and directly relevant indication that it is an interesting time to be a contracting professional, with a positive outlook in terms of both opportunities and rewards.
